Biolase

The Biolase dental laser is probably the most exciting device in dentistry today. For many years, companies have been working on a dental laser to replace the dental drill. We have evaluated some of these in the past and were not impressed. About five years ago Biolase developed a “water laser” for dental applications. The laser uses a combination of laser energy and water spray to remove decay and prepare teeth for fillings. No more whine and vibration of the drill. But that’s not the best part. For most patients, there’s no need for anesthesia. That’s right. No shot, no drill. Now you see why we’re excited.

The laser can also be used to treat sensitive areas of teeth around the gum line. Many people have small notches in their teeth at the gum line that are uncomfortably sensitive to touch or to cold. It’s not the whole tooth, but a specific spot. These areas respond well to laser desensitization treatments.

Even though the laser is a very expensive piece of equipment, there is not additional cost for its use. We made the investment because we feel it makes for a better dental experience for our patients. We are always looking for ways to make dental treatment easier, and if not actually enjoyable, at least less uncomfortable.

Digital Radiography

In our office, we perform completing x-rays for our patients through digital radiography. By using this equipment, digital x-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. The upside to this technology equipment is that it enables our professionals to bypass chemical processing and enhance images when necessary. This machine is also much more time effective, so your x-ray will only take up to a few minutes at most.

Intraoral Camera

With our patients, we implement the usage of intraoral cameras, one of the many tools used in dentistry. This allows our professionals to show the patient the interior of their mouth without the usage of mirrors. Further, this makes it easier for the dentist to show the patient certain areas of their mouth and teeth allowing for a clearer view at problem areas. The camera is approximately the same size and shape of a dental mirror and includes a built in light source.

SpectroShade

The SpectroShade technology is a digital camera connected to an LED spectrophotometer, which allows the device to identify colors that the human eye cannot detect. The device recognizes the color shades of teeth that the dentist should take note of, and it was developed to avoid arising incongruities of color shades while conveying photos between dentists and dental technicians. Additionally, the degree of tooth bleaching is traced, the size of every single tooth is measured. Hence, it indicates the closest available chromatic standard for reconstruction considering aesthetic peculiarities according to the patient‘s requirements.

Diagnodent

To view the depth and severity of a cavity, we use a Diagnodent machine. The Diagnodent machine is a laser, cavity-detecting device that illuminates on cavities and lesions with defined light wavelengths. This is not uncomfortable to any patient and only allows the dentist to get further insight on the patient’s cavity. Teeth with healthy structures will exhibit little or no fluorescence or negative scale readings.
